After you marry, you may want to find a mature married couple who would be willing to mentor you. This simply means that you meet with the couple monthly or every few weeks or as needed and share your hearts and lives. Since they’ve probably “been there, done that,” you can learn so much about how to deal with the nitty-gritty aspects of married life from a couple who has experienced a little more than you have. Remember that honesty is essential; don’t sugar coat your challenges. Be open and question the couple as to how they got through similar challenges. Also, be accountable to them, reporting back when you’re successful in an area your working on or letting them know you still need help in an area that’s tough for you two. Ask their advice regularly; they can be a goldmine of wisdom.
